Know this, once you start drinking, you are exposed to multiple factors that further encourage you to continue drinking. To quit, you must first discontinue the consumption of the substance. That might help the rest of your system adjust to the change, because if they don’t, you are not going to like the outcome of things very much. Sometimes you might need some detoxification to help you successfully stop drinking. You do need to get rid of the things inside you that make you crave the drink, don’t you? So settle in for the detoxification, and let the doctor do their thing. However uncomfortable it might be, you must realize that it is for your greater good. Attendance at self-help groups is extremely helpful to stop drinking. When you can listen to other people tell their stories of failures and successes, you are able to draw strength from them. A lot of people are able to stay off of the bottle this way. And those who were not well, some of them made it back into rehab. Some stop drinking measures are still undergoing ongoing development. Since few if any of the well know approaches already on practice have 100% effectiveness, this is only to be expected. You might want to keep your ear to the ground as we all wait. Perhaps you want to learn about the treatment community for alcoholism. There is a lot you can learn from them that can help you deal with your drinking, or that of your friend. You can contact them over the internet or on phone. Or, you can choose to ask around town and see if any is close to where you stay. Just don’t stay there and do nothing; its your life on the line here. So what is it going to be?
